17-year-old Welsh youth international Gabriele Biancheri started his career at Cardiff before moving to Manchester United.

Having scored 19 goals last season, it seems Biancheri has gained the attention of Manchester United technical director Jason Wilcox, who has been attending academy games with a specific focus on the young striker.

He is scoring freely for the Manchester United youth teams and has been training with the first team, hoping to make his debut later this season.

Just like Ethan Wheatley last season, there’s always an opportunity for a striker at Old Trafford.

If Biancheri can continue the scoring streak that he’s started the season with, there’s no reason why he couldn’t get minutes in a League Cup or UEFA Europa League game as a substitute.

However, with the seemingly imminent arrival of Chido Obi-Martin, it may prove more challenging for Biancheri to get more than just a few minutes if Obi-Martin is successful.

Should Manchester United choose to dip into their academy this season, they are blessed with quality and depth of talent.

With Toby Collyer already making his first team debut and Chido Obi-Martin on the brink of signing from Arsenal, the Manchester United academy has no shortage of talent to deploy to either challenge first team players or allow them much needed rest in a long season.
