4. Defensive Work Rate
Amad Diallo’s defensive work rate hasn’t gone unnoticed by Erik ten Hag, who recently praised his growing impact on the team.
After the Southampton game, Ten Hag said, “He is progressing very well; he gives a lot to the team.
He has shown intelligence in and out of possession. He has attributes which are always very pleasing for a manager.”
Diallo’s exceptional work rate is crucial in Ten Hag’s high-energy system.
His efforts constantly see him tracking back to support his full-back, whilst also surging forward for counter-attacks.
His off-the-ball intensity often forces defenders into mistakes or hurried clearances, creating opportunities for United to regain possession and strike quickly.
That said, there’s room for improvement in his pressing.
At times, Diallo mistimes his press, leaving gaps behind him.
In a well-drilled pressing team, timing is everything – knowing when to press and recognising the triggers are key.
As he sharpens this part of his game, Diallo will become even more effective, elevating his contribution to Manchester United’s tactical approach and making him an invaluable asset.
