Manchester United and Leeds United met today in the Red Devils’ first pre-season game in preparation for the 2o25-26 Premier League season.

This fixture marks the first of three minimum times the two sides will meet this season with their other two meeting falling on the 3rd of January next year at Elland Road before Old Trafford will host the return leg on the 11th of April next year.

During this pre-season meeting, the two sides played out a 0-0 draw which is far from the high-scoring nature of some of the two side’s games in the English top flight and other cup competitions.

When you name Manchester United and Leeds United together, you often think of rivalry and hatred due to their previous meetings and historic relations (e.g. War Of The Roses).

But, in today’s meeting, we saw an example of wholesomeness from Hollywood star Will Ferrell.

The 56-year-old had previously followed thousands of co-investors from the worlds of sport and entertainment in becoming a “limited partner” at Leeds United.

The Whites were taken over by the San Francisco based 49er Enterprises in a £170m buyout in the summer of 2023.

During the 24th minute of the game, MUTV – who were filming the game – focused their cameras on the audience where Ferrell was spotted wearing a shirt displaying the message “I ❤️ Gnesta.”

Gnesta is a place in Sweden and is close to Stockholm where the match was being held.

The print on the t-shirt was well received by the Swedish audience who rose to their feet to give the 56-year-old a standing ovation.

Ferrell has a close connection with Sweden as his wife, Viveca Paulin, is from the European country.

With this not the first time the Hollywood star has been spotted at a Leeds United game, it certainly will not be the last time we see Will Ferrell at a football game.
