Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney has been sacked by Championship side Plymouth Argyle.
Plymouth Argyle have only won two games since the start of October which include a 2-1 result over Blackburn and a 1-0 win when hosting Portsmouth. However, their other results have seen four draws and ten losses, including two red cards.
Whilst the lower quarter of the Championship are close on points, leading to a tight battle to avoid relegation, Plymouth have remained in the relegation zone throughout December, currently sitting at the bottom of the table.
As expected at the bottom of the table, Plymouth currently have the joint fewest goals scored with 22, tied with 21st place Hull, and he most goals conceded by some way with 51. The next highest goals conceded is 19th placed Luton Town with 41.
Whilst there are only seven points between the bottom seven teams with half the season to go, Plymouth have decided to part ways with Rooney in a bid to turn their results around.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Rooney commented: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Plymouth Argyle Football Club, in particular Simon Hallett and Neil Dewsnip who I shared great relationships with.
He continued: “Thanks also to all the staff who made me feel welcome and who make the club such a special place, the players and fans for their efforts and support during my time as Head Coach and I wish them all the best for the future.
“To the Green Army thanks for making the games at Home Park so special, they are memories that we will share forever.
“I would also like to give a special mention to my coaching staff Kevin Nancekivell, Simon Ireland, Darryl Flahavan and Mike Phelan for their knowledge, dedication, help and support.
“Plymouth Argyle will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will continue to look out for and take interest in their results.”
