Wayne Rooney is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Manchester United’s modern history.
After joining from Everton as a teenager, he went on to win numerous trophies at Old Trafford and cement his legacy as one of the club’s all-time greats.
Since retiring, however, his career off the pitch has been far less successful.
Rooney has endured difficult spells in management, with mixed results at Derby County, DC United, and Birmingham City, before most recently leaving Plymouth Argyle by mutual consent after just seven months in charge late last year.
Now, the former United and England captain is preparing to begin a new permanent role, this time away from management and the day-to-day demands of coaching.

Rooney is now expected to shift his focus towards the media side of football, taking on more punditry and broadcasting roles.
According to the Daily Mail, he has signed a £100,000-a-year deal to join Match of the Day, stepping in to replace Gary Lineker, who left the show earlier this year.
The former England captain was spotted arriving for his debut appearance on Sunday and is set to begin his role as a regular pundit for the BBC.
He will be part of a new presenting team alongside Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman, and Gabby Logan.
For Rooney, the shift to punditry could provide a welcome change of pace.
After years of scrutiny as a manager and as a player, he will now be on the other side of the camera, offering insight and critique on players and coaches.
While it remains unclear if he eventually hopes to return to management, this new chapter could give him valuable breathing space away from the dugout.
