Wayne Rooney’s managerial career has faced significant challenges since stepping into coaching.

He managed Birmingham City but lasted only three months before leaving the club.

Rooney then took over at Plymouth Argyle but was sacked after seven months with the team bottom of the Championship.

His struggles have raised questions about his suitability and quality as a manager.

Unlike Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna, Rooney has not yet thrived in the dugout.

Now, the Manchester United legend is said to be in talks to join Match of the Day as a pundit.

Rooney hopes to appear as a rotating guest alongside Gabby Logan, Mark Chapman, and Kelly Cates.

The 39-year-old could earn up to £200,000 per year, depending on his number of appearances.

This potential role follows his stint as a hit pundit during the Euros last summer.

A source from The Sun stated, “Punditry is one of a number of options open to Wayne for the future.

“He worked alongside Gary and co at the Euros last summer, and was a huge hit with viewers.

“He’s also eminently likeable with a forensic knowledge and love of the game.

“Match of the Day and a couple of other broadcasters are interested in having him on their programming.

“Wayne and the BBC are in early stage negotiations but it is looking promising and he is taking some time to work out exactly what he wants to do next”.

The former England striker is considering his options carefully for the next phase of his career.

Meanwhile, his wife Coleen Rooney is exploring new opportunities after success on I’m A Celebrity.

A source added, “This is shaping up to be a massively exciting year for Coleen and Wayne.”
