Manchester United’s sweeping redundancy scheme under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS has entered yet another phase.

Two more senior figures are now set to depart.

This comes following a series of recent shifts internally, with three senior executives departing.

Coming just eight months after 250 staff were let go during the first phase of the overhaul.

Together, the two waves of redundancies represent nearly a third of the club’s previous workforce.

Two senior officials to depart Manchester United

According to Laurie Whitwell for The Athletic, Richard Hawkins, director of football insights and innovations, and David Harrison, director of football operations, are the latest high-profile names to be informed they will no longer have roles at the club.

Discussions over their exit terms are currently ongoing, with staff across multiple departments having individual HR meetings this week to learn their fate.

The timing of the redundancies, coming just before United’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Athletic Club, has added further tension within the club.

On the commercial side, many roles within United’s partnerships team are set to be eliminated.

While the football operations department has also faced heavy cuts.

David Harrison, one of the most senior football figures from the previous regime, oversaw operations at Carrington.

Operations including facilities, catering, security, player travel and registrations.

He had played a pivotal role in the Carrington refurbishment.

He will remain temporarily to manage the transition back into the upgraded site, as per The Athletic’s report.

Harrison, highly respected across English football, previously spent 27 years at Everton.

He frequently assisted in transfers and was known for his ability to operate effectively between boardroom and dressing room.

Richard Hawkins had been at Manchester United since 2008, initially joining during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign as human performance manager.

Over the years, he rose to head of athletic training services and later head of physical performance.

That was before being appointed director of football insights and innovations in March 2023.

His role involved implementing advanced technologies and integrated sports science practices across the men’s, women’s, and academy setups.

This accelerating transformation at United under INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe shows no sign of slowing, as the club prepares for sweeping change across departments.
