Ruben Amorim has broken through as one of the most exciting managers in football right now.

His impressive run of form leading Sporting Lisbon over the last four years has led them to win five trophies, something that the Manchester United bosses are hoping he’ll continue to do at Old Trafford.

However, Amorim isn’t only seen as an impressive manager to watch, with one of his former players singing the highest of praises for his former boss.

Deritson Lopes currently plays for Oriental currently playing in Group D of Campeonato de Portugal, the fourth tier of the Portuguese football leagues.

However, Lopes crossed paths at Casa Pia at the very start of Amorim’s management career.

A tale of Ruben Amorim and his silent generosity

Speaking in 2020 to A Bola, as reported in The Telegraph, Lopes discussed the lengths that Amorim had gone to to help the centre-back off the pitch, calling him “an angel in my life.”

Lopes explained that whilst playing under Amorim, he was struggling to support his young family, however, Amorim not only supported him by finding the family a house, but also paid the rent for a whole year.

Whilst this account of Amorim’s good deed is already heart-warming, further details make it even more of an impressive testament to Amorim’s character.

Casa Pia’s club director Helder Tavares commented about the situation, claiming that Amorim was extremely keen for the situation to remain behind closed doors, not wanting the public to know. Tavares commented: “He does not like people to know about it.”

He continued: “He took care of the player in their personal lives and made sure they were OK. He is human. He is kind.”

This kind of generosity and care for his team is certainly reassuring that the current and future classes of Red Devils are in safe hands.
