Manchester United’s new signing Diego Leon has finally joined Ruben Amorim’s side, reporting to Carrington for the pre-season.
Despite an agreement being made for the young left-back to move to Old Trafford back in January, the transfer couldn’t take place until Leon turned 18 years old, meaning having to wait for the summer.
However, saying that Leon couldn’t wait to join the Red Devils would be an understatement, with the youngster commenting at the airport on his way to England: “Everyone thinks I’ll go out on loan, but I don’t have that mindset. I’m going to kill it in the preseason and within one or two games, I’ll already be playing with them.”

Now, the talented defender has arrived, with images being released of his first training session at Carrington, seeing him alongside fellow new Red Devil Matheus Cunha.
Leon’s arrival at Old Trafford puts him alongside Patrick Dorgu and Harry Amass to fight it out for the role of first choice left-wing-back at the club, however, The Athletic have now revealed United’s plans for the youngster.
It’s understood that United are going to be assessing Diego Leon over the next few weeks, with the initial thoughts being that the youngster will join the Under-21s side as he acclimatises to English football.
This is a similar tactic taken with both Chido Obi and Sekou Kone after their arrivals last year, so as to not put too much pressure on the youngsters.
Ruben Amorim isn’t against including his younger talents in the senior squad, having to rely on the likes of Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson and Chido Obi last year, with all three getting their debuts last season due to the injury crisis at the club.
As such, it’s expected that Leon will get his chance to shine at the Theatre of Dreams when Amorim deems it right to unleash the talented Paraguayan left-back.
