Over the last year, Manchester United supporters group The 1958 have organised countless protests, standing up against The Glazer ownership and decisions being made at Old Trafford.
Since INEOS took charge of football operations of The Red Devils when Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought his 28.9% stake of the club, the British entrepreneur has also come under fire from the group for his controversial cost-cutting measures.
The group have staged sit-ins following last season’s Manchester Derby at Old Trafford, protesting against the removal of the stadium’s longest-held season ticket zones around the dugout to make way for a VIP hospitality zone with tickets set at a premium price.
Alongside this, marches have been organised on Old Trafford, for the fans to unite and show their frustration against the Glazer ownership, fighting back against the notion that the fans should have to pay for the years of mismanagement and Glazer debt.
Now, The 1958 are launching their most ambitious intention, trying to unite the different Manchester United fan groups under one charter.
The Daily Mail has reported the plans of the group, bringing all United fan groups together for the first time in 20 years against club decisions that are directly impacting United fans.
A spokesperson for the club commented: “Our club leadership team do not consult with the fan base”.
The continued: “They’ve decided that dictating decisions that impact the match-going support is their interpretation of fan engagement.
“If that’s the case, then every action needs a reaction which has to be a joint decision and backed by all fan groups for maximum impact. Things need to change.”
Earlier this season the group decided to abandon one of their protests amid a split in fans’ reactions to the INEOS ownership; however, the group now seem fully committed to getting back to action.
