The Manchester United supporters group, The 1958, have always been forthcoming to protest against The Glazer ownership.

Last season saw a flurry of protests following INEOS’ cost-cutting measures, with the group blaming years of financial mismanagement and Glazer debt.

As such The 1958 organised marches on Old Trafford and a sit-in after the Manchester Derby to stand up against the club turning the season ticket area around the dugout into a VIP hospitality zone to raise more funds.

However, the group have now taken to X to explain they are postponing their upcoming protest that was due for the opening game of the season when United host Arsenal on 17th August 2025.

In the post, The 1958 explained: “After careful reflection, and in light of the survey results. We have made the decision to postpone the planned protest for the Arsenal home game on Saturday, August 17th.”

The statement continued: “For us, it has always been, and will always be, about the fans. About how we’re treated by the club and its owners. About protecting the future of Manchester United, affordable football for all (especially youth), safeguarding fan culture, and ensuring the next generation of supporters inherit a club run with responsibility and respect.

“These long-term goals matter more to us than signings, glittery training ground refurbs or anything else. That’s where we’ve always stood and we make no apologies for it.

“With a fanbase as diverse and passionate as ours, finding the right balance isn’t always easy. We’ve had to consider momentum, timing, fan appetite, broader consequences of protest activity whilst assessing how current and future decisions may impact us as fans.

“Given the current sentiment within the fanbase and particularly in light of these recent survey results, it’s clear there is no unified view on the direction of the club under Ratcliffe.

“That split is real, and we believe it would be irresponsible to risk creating a situation that could result in any “red on red” conflict inside or outside the stadium.”

The 1958 then explained that across the 26,000 surveys, 63% said that INEOS should be judged on their actions so far, and 68% felt that Sir Jim Ratcliffe needs more time to be judged properly.

As such, the statement from the group continued: “Postponing this protest is unprecedented for us but it’s also pragmatic. Fan unity is everything, and we refuse to jeopardise that.

“Our focus now turns to August 23rd, when the share freeze ends. That moment will be decisive. Our objective remains unchanged: remove the Glazers from our club.

“After the 23rd we need full transparency on the ownership direction of our club and expect to see movement in the shares.

“We move forward with the same belief we started with.

”This is about protecting and saving the soul of our club. Nothing else matters to us.
