Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff has undergone a significant transformation this summer, with Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy joining as assistant managers, and Jelle ten Rouwelaar appointed as the goalkeeping coach.
Darren Fletcher has assumed the role of first-team coach, and Steve McClaren has taken on the position of senior first-team coach.
In contrast, Eric Ramsey, Benni McCarthy, Mitchell van der Gaag, and Richard Hartis have all departed from the club in recent months.
United to imminently sign Swedish coach
According to reports from Norway, Manchester United are now poised to enhance Erik ten Hag’s coaching team further by recruiting Lillestrom’s manager Andreas Georgson as a set-piece coach.
United are expected to trigger a buyout clause in Georgson’s contract with the Norwegian club, which would facilitate his move to Old Trafford after an eight-month stint.
The reports indicate that the buyout would cost United approximately £280,000.
The 42-year-old Swedish coach, Andreas Georgson, joined Lillestrom after a tenure at Southampton, where he was brought in by their director of football, Jason Wilcox.
Now serving as the technical director at United, Wilcox is believed to be instrumental in the decision to bring Georgson on board.
Upon Georgson’s appointment at Southampton, Wilcox praised his expertise, saying, “Andreas has an excellent understanding of the game model we’re building here, in which set-pieces play an important role. He is an expert in what he does and truly eats, sleeps and breathes set-pieces, adding another string to our bow within the backroom staff supporting Russell and the team.”
Georgson’s coaching résumé includes roles focusing on set-pieces at Brentford, Arsenal, and Southampton.
He started his coaching journey at Malmo, progressing through their youth ranks and serving as an assistant manager.
In 2022, he returned to Malmo as head of first-team football and later had a brief stint as caretaker manager before moving to Southampton in August 2023.
Currently, Lillestrom is eighth in the Eliteserien, with their next match scheduled for Sunday.
