Ahead of the Women’s Super League kicking off this weekend, Manchester United Women will play Leicester City Women on Sunday 7th September.
United’s women side won the FA cup in the 2023-24 season and impressively finished in 3rd last season under Marc Skinner with Elisabeth Terland finishing as the top scorer with 10 League goals.
This summer the club has added Julia Zigiotti Olme as a defensive midfielder from Bayern Munich and Fridolina Rolfo as a forward from Barcelona who both play for the Sweden National Womens Team.
With competition for places fierce in Skinner’s flourishing side, Manchester United Women forward Keira Berry has joined Sunderland on loan until 31 December as confirmed by United’s club website.
The 20 year old signed a contract extension in the summer, running until June 2026. With Skinner’s team progressing in the qualifying stages of the Champions League Barry travelled with the squad as they beat PSV Eindhoven and Hammarby.
The forward made an appearance late on against PSV Eindhoven marking her first appearance for the club since December 2022 with the loan move crucial in her being able to gain experience for the Championship club who finished seventh last season and will form part of the re-branded Womens Super League 2.
After a move to Crystal Palace in the 23/24 season, this will be Barry’s second loan spell. She was part of the Women’s team that gained promotion for the first time in their history marking a huge achievement, but sadly, Barry had to deal with injuries throughout that season.
As well as Keira Barry, three other players have agreed a loan move away from Manchester United. Jess Simpson, Lucy Newell and Emma Watson have agreed respective loan moves with Southampton, Birmingham City and Crystal Palace.
The hope is that with United getting better and better, Keira Barry and the other players out on loan have a successful, fruitful loan spell away.
