Sir Jim Ratcliffe has had a huge responsibility on his shoulders since arriving at Manchester United.
With the club in decline both on and off the pitch, his job has been to restructure Old Trafford, modernise operations and make United financially sustainable once again.
That has involved difficult decisions, from increasing ticket prices to mass redundancies, all in the name of trimming costs.
But such measures have not gone down well with supporters, many of whom have grown frustrated with the ruthless approach he has taken in pursuit of stability.
This isn’t the first time Ratcliffe’s INEOS have been caught in legal or contractual disputes either.
As news circulated in June, the Manchester United co-owner was sued by Tottenham Hotspur after INEOS attempted to withdraw early from their multi-million-pound sponsorship deal for the Grenadier 4×4.
INEOS previously said they were being forced into cutting back across sport due to “high energy costs and extreme carbon taxes” in Europe.
Along with several other sponsorships also ending in recent months.

Now, according to The Telegraph’s report, Ratcliffe’s INEOS is counter-suing Spurs for more than £1 million.
This comes after accusing Spurs of holding talks with Audi around the time of Harry Kane’s transfer to Bayern Munich.
Spurs originally lodged a claim of over £11 million, alleging INEOS breached a five-year £17.5m minimum deal signed in 2022 after the company failed to make payments on time.
But in a counter-claim to the High Court, INEOS argue Spurs were already in discussions with Audi.
A direct competitor, over rights that had been granted exclusively to them under the sponsorship agreement.
They allege these conversations were linked to Kane’s 2023 move to Bayern and ultimately undermined the deal.
INEOS now say Spurs owe them over £1m for failing to provide sponsorship rights in the final part of the contract’s third year.
