This weekend, Sir Jim Ratcliffe was in attendance at Old Trafford for Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

On the brink of halftime, club captain Bruno Fernandes hammered home a beautiful freekick, taking The Red Devils ahead. However, in the 74th minute, Declan Rice evened the scoring for both clubs to take home a point.

Considering the season United have been having, especially with key players like Amad Diallo, Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo out injured, a draw against second-place Arsenal is a great showing.

In a series of interviews conducted yesterday, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has named a few stars who showed great promise, praising their recent showings, especially in what he saw on the weekend.

Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap, Ratcliffe commented on how Ruben Amorim and INEOS have inherited a squad built for Erik ten Hag, which now needs to be adapted to the Portuguese manager’s play style.

Ratcliffe also commented about how the Premier League is a different beast to other leagues, with players needing time to adjust.

Speaking about Joshua Zirkzee in particular, Ratcliffe commented: “It’s not an easy league to play in, there is a lot of scrutiny. Look at how Zirkzee got knocked about yesterday (versus Arsenal) in the first half, he would not be used to that in the Italian league.”

However, highlighting the passion and determination of some of the new signings, Ratcliffe commented: “We saw a glimpse of the future yesterday.”

He continued: “They were quite cohesive, you saw a bit of the game plan and the players played their hearts out for Manchester United. You could see it in [Matthijs] De Ligt tackling, and in the tackle that [Ayden] Heaven made, that it meant something.”

Since Amorim has taken charge, it’s been clear there has been some improvements with the new signings, with Zirkzee grabbing a few more goals and players like Noussair Mazraoui, Patrick Dorgu and Matthijs de Ligt instantly cementing themselves into the first team.

However, the INEOS owner insisted that all of their signings in the last 12 months will “come good”.
