Sir Alex Ferguson has been out of the management seat now for over ten years, having stepped away from his managerial role with Manchester United back in 2013.

Across his 27 years at the club, Ferguson had a tremendous record, raising The Red Devils to the top of world football, with 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, a UEFA Supercup, and a FIFA Club World Cup trophy, not to mention 19 domestic cups.

Since leaving his role as manager, Ferguson has been United’s global ambassador, representing the club around the world.

However, the 83-year-old was one of the victims of INEOS’ cost-cutting measures, seeing his multi-million-pound contract come to an end.

Now, however, The Mirror has reported that Sir Alex Ferguson has been seen in the stands at the opening game of the 2025/26 League One campaign as Cardiff City took on Peterborough.

The legendary manager was in attendance, supporting his son, Darren Ferguson, the Peterborough manager, in his fourth stint managing the club.

Darren Ferguson hung up his boots with Peterborough in 2008 having taken on the role of play-coach, moving into the managerial role full-time.

However, in January 2010, Preston North End appointed Ferguson Jr, with his time at the club only lasting 12 months.

In January 2011, Darren Ferguson returned to Peterborough for four years, until 2015 when the club parted ways with their repeat manager, seeing him clubless until October that year when Doncaster took on the Glaswegian.

After just over two years with the club, Ferguson left in June 2018, returning to Peterborough for the third time in January 2019, lasting three years until February 2023.

Peterborough replaced Ferguson with Grant McCann, another regular man in the hot seat at the club, before they parted ways for the second time in January 2023, relacing him with Darren Ferguson for his fourth time leading the club.

Now, starting his second full season since returning to the side, Darren Ferguson had his father in attendance joined by Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry, who was also known at Old Trafford having come through the Manchester United academy.

However, the game wasn’t as promising as the Ferguson duo would have hoped for their opening game, with Cardiff City winning 2-1 overall in their first match after being relegated from the Championship.
