Sir Alex Ferguson is a true Manchester United and Premier League legend, having led The Red Devils to 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, and personally having won two World’s Best Club Coach awards in 1998 and 2007.

Alongside these illustrious awards, Ferguson also managed to add 19 domestic cups to the Old Trafford trophy room, including five FA Cups.

Since leaving the role of manager in 2013, the 83-year-old has continued his work with the club as United’s Global Ambassador, promoting the club’s brand around the world.

However, Ferguson’s position is one that’s come under fire since INEOS took charge, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe bringing an end to the former manager’s multi-million-pound contract.

Despite his contract ending, Ferguson still has influence at the club, being a core part of United’s history and DNA.

As such, the club’s former manager put forward his recommendations to the club for former player and current coach Darren Fletcher.

Manchester Evening News has reported that Sir Alex Ferguson recommended that Fletcher take n Nick Cox’s role as the director of the United academy prior to him starting his new role as the coach of United’s Under-18s side.

However, Fletcher has opted to take the reigns of the Under-18s, with this role more inkeeping with his long-term plans to get into first-team management.

He follows in the footsteps of Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna who started with the United Under-18s before Jose Mourinho brought him into his senior coaching staff in 2016.

However, in line with Ferguson’s recommendations, United have given Fletcher a key leadership role in the academy to oversee all other age groups.
