Manchester United officially have a new goalkeeper, with Senne Lammens having arrived from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.

The 23-year-old joins Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton in the goalkeeper department as Onana’s spot as the club’s first-choice keeper is in doubt after last year’s struggles.

Now, the talented shot-stopper has joined the Red Devils and is ready to battle for the top spot, having rejected Galatasaray, having his heart set on Old Trafford.

United agreed a £21.5 million (€25 million) deal for the keeper, comprising of an £18 million (€21 million) transfer fee, plus £3.5 million (€4 million) in add-ons, with no sell-on clause included.

Now, The Red Devils have officially revealed the number he’ll be wearing in goal, as Senne Lammens becomes Manchester United’s number 31.

Only three other goalkeepers have worn the shirt-number, with Jack Butland taking it on for the 2022/23 season, Martin Dubravka also in the same seasonbefore being sold in the January and replaced by Butland, and Nick Culkin from 1998 to 2000.

However, other big names have taken on the number outfield, with Nemanja Matic taking on the 31 shift from 2017 to 2022, inheriting it from Bastian Schweinsteiger who wore it for two seasons, having taken it on from Marouane Fellaini for the two seasons prior to that.

Looking back further, current United academy coach and former midfielder Darren Fletcher also wore the shirt number at the start of his career for two seasons before switching to the number 24 he became famous for.
