This evening, catastrophe appeared to strike for Manchester United with Sekou Kone being injured before the Premier League season even gets underway.
In a game for the Under-21s side against Tamworth, Kone took to the pitch, still on the fringe of the senior squad but some way off his debut as of yet.
However, just before the halftime whistle, Kone went down, suffering a head injury after colliding with a member of the opposition.
Whilst Kone got back to his feet, medical staff advised him to go to the floor again, requiring treatment on the pitch.
The young midfielder was then stretchered off the pitch, with the game ultimately being abandoned.
Now, Manchester United have taken to their official X account to give an update on their talented young midfielder.
Their post explained: “Sekou is conscious, stable and communicating with United’s medical team. He has been taken to hospital as a precaution for further checks.”
The Red Devils will be hoping that Kone will recover quickly, as he’s expected to flourish as one of the next class of United stars.
Whilst Kone was expected to go out on loan this season, with links to Lausanne-Sport on the cards, The Red Devils opted instead to keep him at the club to be close by if needed.
With Christian Eriksen now departed the club, Casemiro in the final year of his contract, and the pairing of Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte being the top contenders for the middle of the pitch, Kone only has Toby Collyer as a fellow youngster looking to break into the first-team, with Collyer having earned a spot on the fringe of the senior squad.
Update on Sekou Kone after he sustained a head injury in tonight’s National League Cup game:
Sekou is conscious, stable and communicating with United’s medical team.
He has been taken to hospital as a precaution for further checks.
