With the end of the Premier League season nearly in sight, Manchester United are preparing for the summer transfer window, with plans now revealed regarding Joshua Zirkzee.
The Dutch striker’s debut season at Old Trafford came to an early end, picking up a thigh injury against Newcastle United earlier this month.
Unfortunately for Zirkzee, he hasn’t had the best first season with United, with reports emerging suggesting that Erik ten Hag didn’t want to sign the striker when he first arrived at Carrington.
From that point on Zirkzee, faced struggles and failed to provide consistency in front of goal, only grabbing seven goals and three assists in 48 games.
However, the 23-year-old has improved under Ruben Amorim, with the manager confident that Zirkzee can grow and develop further to be a key player in his 3-4-2-1 system.
The Red Devils are on the verge of signing Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha, who could be seen as a replacement to Zirkzee or at least rival him for the striker role.

Manchester United to retain Joshua Zirkzee
Now, United in Focus has reported that Zirkzee is to remain at Old Trafford for next season, with Cunha coming in as a No. 10 to fit in behind Zirkzee.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Rasmus Hojlund, who is looking likely to depart Old Trafford in the summer, with United’s coaches having lost confidence in his ability.
It’s understood that some clubs in Italy, such as Napoli, are still interested in the Danish striker, with Hojlund having high regard from his previous stint in Serie A with Atalanta.
Any fee they receive for Hojlund will help United to trigger Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause, with the Brazilian already close to agreeing terms on a move to Carrington.
