Ruben Amorim arrived at Carrington yesterday for his first day as Manchester United’s new head coach.

Amorim succeeds Erik ten Hag as the next permanent manager, making him the youngest in the club’s history. His appointment is a testament to the work he’s done with Sporting Lisbon before joining The Red Devils.

In four years at Lisbon, Amorim secured Sporting’s first league title in 19 years, and four other trophies.

Amorim was appointed two weeks ago when Erik ten Hag was sacked, with assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy stepping up as interim manager.

The legendary striker did a fantastic job in charge, leading the club to three wins and a draw, starting an unbeaten run.

However, with Amorim bringing in his backroom staff from Lisbon, there was no place for van Nistelrooy and his fellow coaches to remain at Carrington.

Now though, there’s been a hold-up to Amorim’s duties starting at Carrington.

Ruben Amorim and his work permit

Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox greeted Amorim on his arrival, beginning his meetings with the key figures at the club.

Amorim met with the chiefs and got himself acquainted with the training grounds that are currently receiving a £50 million renovation. However, he’s yet to step foot on the training field due to work restrictions.

The Portuguese manager is yet to receive his work permit to begin working in the UK. Unfortunately, Amorim could only complete the application upon arriving in the UK, so the hold-up was expected.

However, Portuguese outlet O Jogo claims that his work permit should be granted in 24 to 48 hours. This will allow Amorim to begin working with his team and players ahead of their next match with Ipswich Town.

Thankfully, this isn’t affecting United too much.

Some of the United squad are on international duty, with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot currently in Portugal. Those who have not been called up by their national teams have been given some time off until Friday, meaning there is no effect on training.
