Over the course of the summer transfer window, Manchester United have been going through a major rebuild, seeing reinforcements move to Old Trafford in attack and defence.
Leading the charge, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have all joined The Red Devils, whilst Amorim now has Diego Leon and Senne Lammens to deploy as a new left-wing-back and goalkeeper.
However, one area that was not recruited to was the midfield.
Despite strong links with the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba, United neglected to sign a new centre-midfielder, with the club reportedly happy with their current options.
That said, the club have recently limited their options further with fringe player Toby Collyer going out on a season-long loan to West Bromwich Albion, leaving only Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo as options in the centre of the park.
Whilst Fernandes, Casemiro and Ugarte looked to firmly remain at Old Trafford this summer, the end of the window saw Mainoo request for a loan-move away from United for the season to get more game time, with The Red Devils rejecting the request.
Now, Manchester Evening News has reported that Sekou Kone could be Ruben Amorim’s solution to the limited midfield cover, with United staff believing he could contribute to the senior team before the end of the season.
Unfortunately that’s not due to be any time soon as the Mali international is out injured with a fractured eye socket after a collision with a Tamworth player in their fixture last month for the Under-21s.
The youngster was stretchered off with the game abandoned, with Sekou Kone taken into hospital, leaving no available ambulances at the stadium.
Now, the 19-year-old is recovering at home, however is expected to wear a protective mask when returning to the pitch as a precautionary measure after the horrific collision.
