Manchester United’s struggles under Ruben Amorim have reached a breaking point after a turbulent start to the new campaign.
The Portuguese coach has overseen just seven wins in 29 league games since replacing Erik ten Hag last November, with United sinking to a 15th-place finish last season – their worst in decades.
This season has offered no reprieve, with one point from two league matches and a humiliating League Cup exit at the hands of League Two Grimsby.
A loss which was described as the ‘greatest humiliation of Amorim’s career ever’ by Portuguese media.
Fans who largely backed Amorim last season are beginning to turn, frustrated with a 3-4-3 system that continues to look both rigid and ineffective.
Only three weeks ago was it a different story, with the mood around the club being fairly positive.
But now, things are starting to look bleak and not just on the pitch.

According to The Mirror’s report, Amorim will now hold showdown talks with United’s hierarchy after Saturday’s must-win clash against Burnley.
The 40-year-old hinted at his future being on the line with blunt post-match comments midweek, admitting “we will have time to decide things” – a clear nod to discussions about his role.
United are reluctant to sack him less than a year into his contract.
Particularly after spending over £200m to support his vision this summer, let alone the staggering cost it would take to dismiss the Portuguese.
However, there is acceptance that results must improve immediately.
Chief executive Omar Berrada, who drove Amorim’s appointment, is determined to give the head coach every chance, yet his own reputation is now closely tied to the outcome.
With no European football, only the FA Cup offers a realistic shot at silverware this season, heightening the pressure for an instant turnaround.
Amorim may be saved if United secure three points against newly-promoted Burnley at Old Trafford.
But failure to grab the three points this weekend, may well spell the end of his final game as United manager.
