Ruben Amorim’s time at Manchester United hasn’t been short of challenges, and it’s fair to say the Portuguese coach may have underestimated the scale of the task at Old Trafford.
Last season’s 15th-place finish was a club-record low in the Premier League era, breaking numerous records for the wrong reasons.
Despite flashes of promise under Amorim, it was a campaign marked by inconsistency and growing pains.

But with a full pre-season under his belt and a clearer picture of the club’s needs, there is fresh optimism that United can rise again.
Amorim has opened up about his experience in United’s official yearbook, delivering a powerful message to supporters ahead of the new campaign.
“Fulfilling our immense potential on a consistent basis is the aim for next season.
“For everyone associated with football – players, staff and fans alike – the start of the new season is a time of excitement and optimism, and a time to look forward.
“We should not completely ignore or forget what happened last season.
“There are many lessons for us to learn from where things went badly.
“Also from the positive moments when we reminded ourselves of our potential to become so much better.
“Our energy is now focused on making sure we get closer to that potential, more often, and more consistently, this season.

“We all suffered so much disappointment and pain together last season as we went through that process of changing the way we work in our club.
“However, we are now in a much better position than we would have been if I was only joining this summer.”
Amorim certainly hasn’t been afraid in being honest since his arrival in October.
Fans expect honesty – that is something Amorim has most definitely shown if there’s any positive to take from a horrid tenure so far.
The Portuguese has however, shined optimism on what’s to come, insisting that good times are awaiting.
“Because of everything I have learned in the past eight months, and everything the players have learned about what I expect of them.
“One of the main things I have learned is how special this football club is, and how special its fans are.

“I feel a big sense of responsibility to help put Manchester United back where it belongs.
“Like I said on the pitch at Old Trafford after our final game of last season against Aston Villa, a strong belief that much better days lie ahead.
“I cannot promise that we will reach all our long-term objectives this season.
“But I can promise that I will give everything to help put us firmly on that path.”
United’s pre-season continues this week, with Amorim determined to lay the foundation for a season of progress.
