With the Manchester derby tomorrow reigniting the Premier League season after it’s September pause for the international break, Ruben Amorim is tasked with a tricky decision of naming his starting eleven.
Perhaps the most difficult selection is who to put between the sticks for such a massive occasion.
Former first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana has now departed the club on a season-long loan with Turkish side Trabzonspor, however this won’t affect Amorim a huge amount, having only played one of the four games that United have played this season.
His disastrous display against Grimsby Town was a key factor in the League Two side’s victory, seeign the club sign Senne Lammens on deadline day five ddays later, and now has seen the Cameroon international leave Old Trafford.
In Onana’s absence, Ruben Amorim has selected Altay Bayindir to protect The Red Devils’ goal so far this Premier League season, however given his poor displays last season, its hard to label him as a reliable deputy.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Amorim has decided to stick with Altay Bayindir for the time being, giving time for Lammens to settle into the club.
Speaking the pre-match press conference ahead of the Manchester derby, Amorim commented: “I’m pleased with Lammens, he has a lot of potential. Now we are in the moment that the goalkeeper needs to be really strong and have a lot of experience”.
Unfortunately for Bayindir, he has an extremely in-form Erling Haaland to keep at bay, with the Norway international having recorded seven goal involvements including five goals against Andora this week in Norway’s 11-1 win.
Thankfully, however, he won’t have to worry about new signings Rayan Cherki or Omar Marmoush, who have both been ruled out through injury, as confirmed by Pep Guardiola..
