Ruben Amorim is currently putting his squad through their paces in pre-season, as he looks to implement his ideas ahead of a crucial campaign.
The Portuguese coach remains committed to his 3-4-2-1 system, but after last season’s disastrous 15th-place finish, significant changes are clearly needed.
Training sessions have taken on added importance, giving Amorim the platform to instil his principles, tactical patterns, and structure into the squad.
Once the players are fully comfortable with his base system, Amorim plans to introduce more flexibility to adapt against different opponents, a key part of his coaching identity.
With new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo now on board, Amorim is also working to integrate them into the system quickly.
Both are expected to play in the No. 10 roles and were brought in to help address United’s ongoing goalscoring issues.
However, Simon Stone, via X, has now reported a telling quote from Amorim’s latest press conference, one that has sparked questions about Manchester United’s transfer window plans.
Amorim said “We need to be really careful when we sign players. If we start the season with this squad I am happy.”
Amorim’s recent comments underline his intention to only sign players who clearly fit his tactical vision at Manchester United.
Despite reports linking the club with a goalkeeper, midfielder, and striker, Amorim appears satisfied with the core of his current squad.
While he would ideally like to add more quality, he is unwilling to compromise on profile or value.
If the right targets don’t emerge at the right price, United are prepared to hold firm.
It signals a more disciplined approach in the transfer market, after the panic-driven spending that has plagued the club in recent years.
However, United will still be actively pursuing options as well as focusing on outgoings.
