Manchester United began their Premier League season with a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal.
Despite the result, United performed impressively, dominating possession and territory while creating the majority of chances.
However, they were unable to turn their strong performance into points.
Arsenal’s goal came in the 13th minute from a corner, highlighting a familiar issue for United.
Riccardo Calafiori nodded in at the back post after United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir remained rooted to his line, failing to claim a ball that should have been his.
With Andre Onana injured and United linked to multiple goalkeepers in the transfer window, Bayindir faced significant pressure and ultimately struggled in the moment.
However, after the game, manager Ruben Amorim was strong in his defence of his goalkeeper, emphasising the need to focus on the team’s collective performance and not single out individuals.

The official Manchester United website has shared Ruben Amorim’s post-match comments.
When asked about starting Tom Heaton instead, he simply replied, “Why,” before explaining that Bayindir’s exceptional performance in a previous fixture against Arsenal played a major role in his decision.
He highlighted the goalkeeper’s ability to make crucial contributions, specifically referencing Bayindir’s penalty save in that same match.
Amorim emphasised that the choice to start Bayindir was deliberate and based on careful consideration of all factors.
Manchester United remain interested in strengthening their goalkeeping options, with links to Senne Lammens and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
However, any new signing is dependent on offloading a current goalkeeper first, which looks unlikely before the window closes.
With limited options for incomings, it is crucial for Ruben Amorim to fully back his existing goalkeepers, building their confidence and trust.
Ensuring stability and faith in the squad will be key as United face a challenging Premier League season ahead.
