Ruben Amorim is three Premier League games into his first full season at Manchester United, a season he will arguably hope will be successful.

The manager, formerly of Sporting CP, has changed the squad he will work with massively during the course of the summer with Amorim’s intent arguably being clear from the moment he brought Matheus Cunha to the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of the transfer window.

However, one key tension point during his reign so far has been with Kobbie Mainoo.

The Englishman is one of many graduates of the famous Red Devils academy and since breaking into the first team in 2022, the midfielder has made 74 appearances and scored seven goals.

But, this summer, it was revealed that the United academy graduate wanted to leave Old Trafford.

Furthermore, the midfielder put in a loan request in a bid to achieve his aim of leaving the Red Devils.

However, his request was rejected by Manchester United which meant the chances of Mainoo staying at United is arguably high.

Now, with the midfielder’s future revealed to be still uncertain, Kobbie Mainoo has been sent a warning sign by Ruben Amorim.

Speaking before today’s game against Manchester City, Amorim said that he thinks “for some guys [talent] is enough, but for him [Mainoo] it is not enough.”

The United boss also stated that he believes in Mainoo “a lot, he is a top top player, but he can be so much better.”

Finally, Amorim comment that he thinks that Mainoo “needs to have the technical ability that he has, but he needs more pace. He needs to understand the position better.”

Now, attention will turn towards the midfielder to see if he implements the changes that are needed.
