Manchester United are set to battle with Tottenham Hotspur tonight in the Europa League final as Ruben Amorim and his men fight for Champions League football.

Both sides have struggled in the Premier League this season, currently sitting in 16th and 17th place with only one game left to play.

As such, the clubs have missed out on European football qualifications through league placements, and through the FA Cup, with Crystal Palace set to play in the Europa League next year after beating Manchester City in the final.

Now, the clubs have it all to play for, with the fixture offering £100 million in extra revenue from joining next season’s Champions League.

However, The Athletic have now revealed the fate of Ruben Amorim and his future at Old Trafford should they lose to Spurs in the final.

With football being a fickle game at times, it’s understandable to think that both Ruben Amorim and Ange Postecoglou could be facing the boot if their side loses in the final given their dismal seasons.

However, The Athletic reveals that Manchester United are keen to stand by the Portuguese manager regardless of the result in Bilbao tonight.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is confident that with a full pre-season training and some new signings, Amorim is the right man to help United bounce back next season.

The Red Devils are on the cusp of signing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap also being pursued to remodel United’s attack.

Having the United hierarchy’s confidence will at least relieve some pressure for Amorim, with the club refusing to let him leave the club earlier this season.

However, Amorim will surely be hoping for a win tonight to seal the chance of competing in Europe next year, with the extra revenue being vital for the club.
