Less than a month into the new season, and Ruben Amorim is already coming under fire, with his future at Old Trafford being questioned.
The Red Devils had a strong pre-season, going undefeated in friendlies against Leeds United, West Ham United, Bournemouth, Everton and Fiorentina.
However, the return to the Premier League brought a challenge United couldn’t overcome as they lost 1-0 to Arsenal in their opening game, going on to draw against Fulham 1-1.
Unfortunately, The Red Devils’ real low came with their defeat to Grimsby Town on penalties, seeing them eliminated from the Carabao Cup for the first time that a fourth-tier team has relegated them from any cup.
As such, Ruben Amorim has come under attack for his rigidity in his system and whether it works for United, with speculation growing over his future with The Red Devils.
Whilst the United hierarchy has been reported as having no plans to sack the Portuguese manager, there are thoughts that Amorim could walk if he feels he is not right for the club.
Now, the man himself has spoken out in his recent press conference about his future with United.
Despite recent comments explaining the rollercoaster of emotions that is managing Manchester United, ESPN has reported Amorim as commenting: “I don’t know what is going to happen.”
He continued: “That is my idea [to continue] but I’m not going to promise you nothing [about] what the future will be. But I am the manager of Manchester United and I think that is not going to change.”
With previous reports claiming that United are looking to stand by Amorim despite the recent set-back, we could well see the Portuguese manager walk out with the Red Devils for the Manchester Derby after the international break.
