Morten Hjulmand and Ruben Amorim first started working together when the Portuguese manager signed the then Lecce midfielder for around £17 million in 2023.
The move saw Hjulmand join Sporting CP in the summer and has since won back-to-back Liga Portugal titles, captaining the side last season.
On top of their league titles, the Denmark international has also help them to win the Taca de Portugal this season, beating Benfica in the final in extra time.

However, Ruben Amorim’s mid-season departure during last season’s campaign has left Hjulmand disappointed, with the midfielder keen to work under Amorim in the first place.
Interestingly, Italian publication Corriere dello Sport has been covering Juventus’ interest in the Danish midfielder, and has now claimed that Morten Hjulmand is now trying to lower his £70 million release clause, claiming it’s no longer valid.
The Italian reported explained: “According to the former Lecce player, the transfer is expected to be for a lower fee, around €30-40m. The discounted price is tied to Amorim’s departure.”

It continued: “When he signed with the Portuguese club, the Dane had accepted that clause exclusively for the presence of Amorim, a great admirer of his. In practice, with the manager’s departure, the player believes that type of restriction is no longer valid and should be revised downwards.”
Whilst this all seems to be a little absurd, there may be some truth in it, with A Bola backing up the story, saying that Hjulmand’s agents have expressed to Sporting that Juventus are looking to bid around £26 million to £35 million (€30 million to €40 million).
As such, this shows how highly regarded Amorim is by the Sporting captain, giving a boost to hopes of a future reunion.
