Without a natural place in Amorim’s setup, Antony found himself on the periphery before eventually sealing a loan move to Real Betis.
At the Spanish club, however, he has rediscovered his form.
In just seven games, he has contributed three goals and two assists, quickly becoming a key player under Manuel Pellegrini.
His performances have even caught the eye of Brazil boss Dorival Junior, who included Antony in the pre-list of 52 names for the national team squad.
Despite his resurgence, a return to Manchester United seems highly unlikely.
The club did not include a purchase option in his loan deal, but sources suggest United are intent on selling him permanently next summer.
Manchester United hierarchy against comments from Ruben Amorim
Internally, there is a belief that Antony has no future at Old Trafford, especially if Amorim remains in charge.
According to Mercado da Bola (UOL), tensions have risen further following Amorim’s public criticism of Antony’s physical attributes.
United’s hierarchy was reportedly unhappy with these comments, believing they could devalue the player in the transfer market.
With financial concerns already looming, United hope to recoup as much as possible from Antony’s sale, ideally approaching the initial fee paid in 2022.
The winger remains under contract until June 2027, while his loan at Betis runs until June 2025.
For now, Antony is thriving in La Liga, but his long-term future remains uncertain.
