Ruben Amorim is still adjusting to life at Manchester United, and as he prepares for a crucial clash with Arsenal.
He has been reflecting on the challenges of managing a club of United’s stature.
The Portuguese coach took charge at Old Trafford in November, stepping into a role that has seen constant upheaval in recent years.
Multiple managers have failed to bring sustained success.
As United’s struggles continue, comparisons have inevitably been drawn to Mikel Arteta’s tenure at Arsenal.
The Spaniard overcame early difficulties to build a title-challenging team.
Amorim, however, believes the situations are vastly different.
Ruben Amorim aims dig at difference in expectations between both clubs
The Portuguese suggested that the expectations at United leave little room for long-term rebuilding.
“I will not have the time that Arteta had, I feel that – it’s a different club,” Amorim said ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
“I think in that aspect, the way that Arteta dealt with that is an inspiration for everybody.
“But, I will not have the time like Arteta had.”
While his words may seem complimentary, they also carry a subtle dig at Arsenal, hinting at the differences in ambition, pressure, and expectations between the two clubs.
United remain one of the most scrutinised teams in world football, constantly expected to compete at the very top.
That is regardless of any transitional phase they may be going through.
Even during their recent struggles, United have continued to attract some of the biggest names in football.
With that comes an expectation to deliver results immediately.
Arsenal, while also a massive club, allowed Arteta the space to rebuild patiently, something Amorim doesn’t believe he will be afforded at Old Trafford.

However, Arsenal fans may argue that Arteta’s early success justified his time in the role.
Especially with the FA Cup triumph in his first season, which provided him with credibility to continue his project.
Ironically, former United boss Erik ten Hag also won a trophy in his first season, with the Carabao Cup triumph.
However the wider structural issues at the club meant he never had the same security.
Arsenal’s recruitment strategy, led by sporting director Edu Gaspar, has been perfectly aligned with Arteta’s vision.
Thus allowing them to assemble a squad that has only improved over time.
United, by contrast, have undergone major changes at the boardroom level, with Christopher Vivell recently being appointed to spearhead recruitment.
However it remains to be seen if they will be able to match Arsenal’s spending power – or more importantly, spend wisely.
