Manchester United’s season has been marred by inconsistency.
However, Sunday’s draw at Anfield hinted at the potential Ruben Amorim’s side holds when everything clicks.
United’s struggles have been well-documented, with a four-match losing streak across all competitions putting Amorim under pressure.
Despite the adversity, the squad’s spirited performance against Liverpool showed a level of fight that has been missing in recent weeks.
Amorim has been calling for leaders to step up.
Against Liverpool, certain players responded to the challenge.
United legend Rio Ferdinand was quick to highlight those who rose to the occasion.
The Englishman praised three standout performers who were pivotal to securing a crucial point at Anfield.
Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, and Mohamed Salah all found the net in a thrilling 2-2 contest.
However, Ferdinand’s plaudits went to those whose work in midfield and defence helped keep United in the game.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former centre-back waxed lyrical about Manuel Ugarte and Noussair Mazraoui.
Ferdinand described their performances as “brilliant.”
Ferdinand also singled out Diogo Dalot, who impressed in a wing-back role on the left side of Amorim’s system.
“I thought Ugarte was brilliant yesterday,” Ferdinand said.
“I thought Mazraoui was brilliant, Dalot was top yesterday.
“But I don’t want to see good seven or eight out of ten this week and then four or five out of ten next week.
“That’s the benchmark, let’s keep it there and maintain it.
“It’s easy to get up for Anfield. Where you’re going to get your questions answered, really, is Southampton next week.
“But what they have to go back to is: what got us that result?
“We f*****g grafted, we got after people.”
Ferdinand’s message echoed the ethos of his time under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Highlighting the relentless work rate that became a hallmark of United’s most successful sides.
Recalling Ferguson’s pride in his teams, Ferdinand added:
“Sir Alex Ferguson said one of the proudest things about all his teams was when the manager of an opposition team would come into his office after a game.
“They’d go, ‘Phwoar, as good as your players are, all these names you’ve got, they run like a Conference team.’
“So going back to that, making sure that’s on point, will put these guys in a good place.”
Southampton will be the next focus for United.
Amorim’s men will aim to build on their Anfield performance and turn a corner in their turbulent campaign.
