The decision from Alejandro Garnacho to head straight down the tunnel after being substituted in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town sparked controversy.

The Argentine winger was taken off shortly before half-time after United were reduced to 10 men, following Patrick Dorgu’s red card.

Ruben Amorim opted to sacrifice Garnacho in order to reshuffle his team.

However, the youngster’s reaction became a major talking point.

Rather than taking his seat on the bench, he made his way straight down the tunnel.

This led to criticism from some pundits.

Dean Saunders even warned that Garnacho was “risking ruining his career” with such behavior.

However, fresh footage has now emerged on social media, clarifying why Garnacho left the pitch in that manner.

A video posted by a United supporter on X inside the stadium shows Garnacho speaking to staff and gesturing towards his shirt.

It showed Garnacho explaining that he needed to change due to the cold and wet conditions.

TV broadcasters TNT Sports did not capture this moment, leading to the initial confusion about his reaction.

Amorim was asked about Garnacho’s actions in his post-match press conference and played down any issues.

“It was cold and wet, maybe…” Amorim said with a grin.

Explaining his decision to take Garnacho off, he added: “The thinking was that we play more in the 5-3-1.

“I know that is a risk because you are taking the only player now that has one-vs-one pace.

“But I felt the team was okay in controlling the game and then we make the substitution.

“We had to choose someone to go out and we had to think about set-pieces also, so that was my choice.”

Some pundits, including Mario Melchiot, have claimed that players like Alejandro Garnacho have looked “lost” since Amorim’s arrival.

United fans will be hoping that Garnacho can rediscover his best form as the club looks to fight its way back up the table.
