Manchester United have recently offloaded former first-choice striker Rasmus Hojlund after two years of failing to provide consistency in front of goal.
Since joining The Red Devils from Atalanta in 2023 for £72 million, Hojlund has failed to live up to his price tag, only scoring 26 goals and grabbing six assists in 95 games.
As such, United have recruited Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig to replace the Denmark international as Ruben Amorim’s top choice to lead the attacking trio at Old Trafford.
Leading up to Sesko’s arrival, Amorim dropped Hojlund from the squad completely, not even being an unused substitute, highlighting that if he wants minutes, he needs a new club.
Throughout the summer, Italian clubs had been linked to the former Atalanta striker, with his stock still high as a proven Serie A striker, however it was the Italian champions that landed his signature.
Napoli have taken Hojlund on a season-long loan deal, with an obligatory buy clause kicking in if they qualify for next year’s Champions League.
Now, recent actions from Rasmus Hojlund have emerged, showing he means business at Napoli, either to succeed at the side ahead of his permanent move next summer, or to show United that he deserves another shot at the top spot.
Despite playing in Denmark’s 3-0 win over Greece on Monday night, grabbing his first goal since leaving Old Trafford with an easy tap in to an open goal, TuttoMercatoWeb has reported that Rasmus Hojlund then flew 800km within 24 hours to attend training for Napoli at the Castel Volturno training centre on Tuesday afternoon.
This saw him take part in training under Antonio Conte at the earliest possible opportunity to start working with his new teammates.
Napoli are set to face Fiorentina on Saturday, seeing Hojlund face off against former Manchester United shot stopper David de Gea, with the Denmark international then having his Champions League debut against Red Devils rivals Manchester City on Wednesday.
