Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has been struggling for some time at Old Trafford, and as a result has now found himself away from the club.
The 22-year-old has been the first-choice striker at Old Trafford since arriving from Atalanta in 2023, however has failed to live up to the expectations of the role.
Since his move to join The Red Devils, Hojlund only scored 26 goals and grabbed six assists in 95 games, with only ten goals scored last season as he experienced a 21-game goal drought.
As such, United’s recruitment team made it their priority to sign a new striker this summer, with the likes of Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike being considered and approached before finally signing Benjamin Sesko.
However, even before Sesko arrived, Ruben Amorim had already decided that he had no plans of using Hojlund in his squad, dropping him completely for his side.
As such, the club began to push for a move, despite Rasmus Hojlund wanting to fight for his spot at Old Trafford, even believing he’s better than Sesko.
Ultimately the striker has seen himself move back to Italy, with Serie A champions Napoli signing the 22-year-old on a season-long loan with the option to buy at the end of the season becoming obligatory for £38 million if they qualify for the Champions League next season.
Well, it hasn’t taken long for Hojlund to score since leaving Old Trafford, grabbing his first post-United goal before he’s even stepped onto the pitch for the Italian side.
In his second appearance since leaving Amorim’s side, Hojlund took to the pitch for Denmark in their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Greece, replacing Mika Biereth in the 64th minute, coming on alongside his United teammate Patrick Dorgu who replaced Andreas Skov Olsen on the right wing.
Then, just over 15 minutes later, the pair went on the attack, as Dorgu picked up the ball on the wing having broken through the defence, with Greek keeper Konstantinos Tzolakis severely off his line. Getting past the keeper, Dorgu took a long-range shot which rebounded off the post into the path of Rasmus Hojlund for a simple open goal tap-in.
Whilst the goal was far from impressive, it still marks the first time Hojlund has gotten on the score sheet in a competitive game since May when he scored against Athletic Club in the Europa League.
