Rasmus Hojlund did not make his first appearance for Manchester United this season until September 21st against Crystal Palace.

He missed United’s first six games of the new campaign due to a hamstring injury that he picked up in a pre-season clash with Arsenal.

Hojlund is one of only three strikers registered in United’s senior squad; the others being summer signing Joshua Zirkzee and U21s star Ethan Wheatley.

The Red Devils have been woeful in front of goal this season, missing the third most big chances in the Premier League (16) and scoring the second fewest goals (5).

Just when they most need Hojlund’s goals, the Danish striker has issued a worrying update on his availability.

He implied that he does not plan to play a full 90 minutes soon, to ensure that he does not get injured again.

“There is no point in rushing things and risking another injury,” Hojlund said, as per The Standard.

“My body feels good again. I might be ready to play 90 minutes, but if I also use my brain a little bit, I don’t think 90 minutes on Saturday against Spain is a good idea.”

Hojlund has been focusing on improving his fitness levels and revealed that he has lost weight this season.

“I’ve lost a little weight, but it doesn’t matter. I know there are some benefits to being a little lighter and some benefits to being a little heavier,” he said.

With Zirkzee struggling to hit the ground running this season, United fans will be disappointed to hear that Hojlund is not ready to feature in his place.

After moving from Bologna in July, Zirkzee has only scored one goal in seven games this season – the winner on his debut against Fulham.

Hojlund has not played more than 70 minutes this season and has only started two games.

In his five appearances, he has also only managed one goal, scoring in a 3-3 draw to Porto in the Europa League.

Erik ten Hag will hope that his £72m signing is back to full fitness soon, as he hopes to overturn United’s worst start to a Premier League season in their history.
