Manchester United are on the brink of signing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers after the striker has had a truly brilliant season for the Midlands side.
United have been lacking firepower up front with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to provide consistency in the final third.
As such, the club have identified Cunha as their priority signing for the No.10 role with Liam Delap of Ipswich also identified as a key target to become the first-choice striker at Old Trafford.
However, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has raised some concerns ahead of Cunha’s inevitable move, despite agreeing that he’s the perfect fit for Ruben Amorim’s side.
Taking to his first TNT Sports column, Scholes has commented: “He looks like he’s got the attributes that Ruben Amorim wants.”
He continued: “He knows that physically, his team are just not strong or quick enough, so Matheus Cunha is obviously athletic, and he’s got quality with 15 league goals this season.”
However, raising concerns, Scholes added: “I just worry for any signing coming to Manchester United at the minute. It just feels like it’s such a bad place to go. The quality of play right now is so poor.”
He continued: “And with Cunha, is he a centre-forward or is he a wide player? There’s no doubt that he has quality and of course, it would be nice to sign him, but I worry about where he fits in.
“You can sign the best three players in the world, and I think they’ll struggle coming into this team at the minute, but they’ve got to start somewhere.”
Unfortunately, Scholes makes a strong point which will no doubt have been hard to raise against his former club, with United sat in 14th place in the Premier League with the Europa League as their final chance for European football next season.
