Patrice Evra said he would “pay out of pocket” to fight Luis Suarez after officially joining MMA organisation Professional Fighters League (PFL).
The American Mixed Martial Arts League announced on Friday that the former Manchester United defender would make his debut in Paris on 23rd May.
Evra, who retired from football in 2019, made 379 appearances for the Red Devils, winning five Premier League titles.
Following his retirement, the Frenchman has gone on to explore multiple ventures outside of the world of football.
From punditry, to appearing on Inside, a series hosted by the popular UK YouTube group The Sidemen, MMA appears to be Evra’s latest peculiar endeavour.
Responding to the League’s announcement, Evra took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to call out former Liverpool striker Suarez.
“I’m officially training for my first fight with @PFLEurope,” the 43-year-old explained.
“They will pick my opponent… They asked who I wanna face. I said: Luis Suárez. I’ll pay out of pocket. He can even bite me.”
The beef between the two men dates back to 2011, when the Uruguayan was charged by the Football Association with racially abusing Evra during a feisty draw between Manchester United and Liverpool.
And after Suarez had served his ban, the two came back into contact for Liverpool’s trip to Old Trafford, with Evra, Rio Ferdinand and David De Gea refusing to shake hands with the forward.
Following the match, which was won by Manchester United, Evra would make the point of celebrating in the face of Suarez.
United would go on to win the Premier League that season, and the defender would fire a final jab at Suarez by biting a fake arm, after the forward had been charged with violent conduct earlier in the season for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
