French side Marseille have officially announced the signing of an ex-Manchester United midfielder.
Marseille finished the French league season in 2nd place behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Until this season Marseille were the only French team to win the UEFA Champions League, winning the competition back in 1993.

Paris Saint-Germain’s treble winning season put a halt to Marseille’s claims of being the only French side to lift the prestigious trophy.
After falling out of European qualification places in 2023/24, Marseille have once again qualified for the Champions League. This makes the French side more appealing to higher quality players across Europe.
Olympique De Marseille released a statement yesterday stating they have officially signed English midfielder Angel Gomes on a free transfer.

There was rumours swirling around that the young Englishman may have been set to return to Old Trafford.
Angel Gomes joined United at the age of six and progressed through the academy, making his first-team debut in May 2017.
Gomes became the first player born in the 2000’s to play in the Premier League. He was the youngest player to feature for United since Duncan Edwards in 1953, Gomes was 16 years and 263 days old. After 10 appearances for the United first-team, Angel Gomes was released at the end of his contract in 2020.
Following United Gomes signed for Lille, firstly going out on loan, but then he became a regular starter for the French side. Since joining Lille, Angel Gomes has gone on to play 134 matches, scoring 10 goals and getting 19 assists.
Whilst at Lille, Gomes also made his debut for England against Republic of Ireland coming off the bench. Four days later he made his first England start in a 2-0 Nations League victory over Finland.
It will be interesting to see how the Manchester United academy gradute gets on at Marseille and whether he can reach the heights which was expected of him when he made his debut at just 16.
