Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has found himself once more clubless after Turkish side Besiktas decided to part ways with the former striker after only seven months.
Unfortunately, it appears that their failure to secure European football was the downfall of the former Norway international as Besiktas crashed out of the Europa League qualifiers being beaten by Shakhtar Donetsk with an aggregate score of 6-2. However, this was only made worse by their elimination from the UEFA Conference League qualifiers, being beaten by Swiss side FC Lausanne-Sport.
After taking charge of Besiktas back in January, Solskjaer helped the Turkish side to come fourth overall in the Super Lig, taking them up two places from the position he inherited.
However, their opening 2-1 win over Eyupspor in the 2025/26 Super Lig season wasn’t enough to save the manager’s job, seeing him dismissed at the end of August.
Now, Beskitas have appointed Sergen Yalcin to be Solskjaer’s successor, whilst the United legend is without a new club.
As it took just over three years to take on another managerial job after leaving Old Trafford in 2021, no-one’s expecting him to instantly be announced with a new role, however, his appearance at a Championship game has sparked speculation.
Manchester Evening News has reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was spotted in the stands for Ipswich Town’s Championship clash with Sheffie;d United.
The Blades boss Ruben Selles is known to be in the firing line right now and under pressure, having lost the opening five games of the 2025/26 campaign, and their 5-0 hammering by Ipswich won’t have helped matters, leaving Sheffield United at the bottom of the table as the only team yet to win a point.
Naturally seeing a face like Solskjaer in the stands so close after his dismissal, especially with the trouble the club are in, rumours are going to start circling.
However, Solskjaer also has links to Ipswich, with boss Kieran McKenna being a part of the United legend’s coaching set up at Old Trafford beofre moving to Ipswich. As such, the pair are firm friends, so could also be a reason for Solskjaer’s attendance.
