Manchester United have endured a nightmare campaign, struggling for consistency and languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Ruben Amorim’s side has lacked balance, having recently beat Ipswich despite an unconvincing performance.

Questions continue to be raised about whether the Portuguese coach can turn things around.

Former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been keeping a close eye on the club’s struggles.

The former Manchester United player and manager revealed the one player he was disappointed to see leave.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘upset’ at Scott McTominay sale

Speaking to The Athletic, the Besiktas manager admitted he was upset that United sold Scott McTominay.

He suggested the midfielder’s goalscoring ability and leadership were undervalued.

“When I can [watch United], it’s still good to see Bruno Fernandes and Harry [Maguire] doing well,” Solskjaer said.

“And Scotty [McTominay] is doing well at Napoli.

“I’m upset that we let him go because he was important last season when he kept popping up with goals.

“His heart and his knowledge of the culture were important,” as per The Athletic.

McTominay left United last summer for Napoli in a £26 million deal, becoming the most expensive Scottish footballer of all time.

The 27-year-old has since flourished in Serie A, helping Napoli to the top of the league table while scoring seven goals in all competitions.

Meanwhile, United have struggled for goals from midfield.

Their issues under Amorim have only deepened unrest behind the scenes.

Off the pitch, United’s turmoil has extended beyond the dressing room.

On Monday, chief executive Omar Berrada confirmed that up to 200 staff members could lose their jobs as the club navigates financial difficulties.

While Wednesday’s 3-2 victory over Ipswich provided a temporary lift, there remain deep-rooted issues at Old Trafford that need urgent addressing.
