Despite recent struggles, Manchester United are still one of the biggest teams in the world, with the iconic Old Trafford nicknamed the Theatre of Dreams for a reason.

This year United are without European football, having failed to qualify for the Champions League, Europa League or even the UEFA Conference League.

However, this hasn’t stopped the club from signing top targets like Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens who want to wear the shirt and step out on the pitch at the historic stadium.

Whilst United are looking at developing a completely new home ground, with the plans for a £2 billion new stadium ideally being completed by the start of the 2030/31 season, the club are still focused on the safety and experience of the fans at Old Trafford.

As such, The Daily Mail has now revealed plans for The Red Devils to install a “ring of steel” surrounding the busiest parts of Old Trafford to protect the club’s fans from terrorist attacks at the ground, specifically those using vehicles.

Back in May, Liverpool saw their fans targeted in a ram raid attack near Anfield following their title win which saw 79 fans injured in the attack.

Whilst this has highlighted the need for protective measures, United sources have reported that the plans to upgrade the infrastructure at Old Trafford had already been in the works, especially focusing on security.

The mobile barriers are state-of-the-art, designed to destroy the engines of any vehicle being used as a weapon, have been installed at both ends of Sir Matt Busby Way, where most of the 74,000 fans access the stadium.

Already the measures have been used for the home games against Arsenal and Burnley, as well as a bollard system that was already in place around the ground.
