With Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s regime keen to upgrade the club’s technical foundations, United have targeted figures from elite sporting organisations.

Particularly those with ties to INEOS’s broader sporting portfolio.

One of the most notable appointments this week comes from the Formula 1 world.

Michael Sansoni joins Manchester United to oversee data analyst team

Michael Sansoni, who previously worked as a senior performance simulation engineer at the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team, has now joined Manchester United to head up the club’s data department.

Sansoni, a University of Southampton graduate with a first-class degree in aerospace engineering, will now oversee United’s team of data analysts according to Laurie Whitwell’s report for The Athletic.

He will be tasked with developing more sophisticated modelling and performance insights across football operations.

His arrival at United was reportedly linked to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s search for elite-level data professionals.

As per The Athletic’s report, Sansoni’s name emerged due to his connections through Mercedes, where INEOS is both a shareholder and principal partner.

These appointments reflect Manchester United’s growing effort to modernise their infrastructure and apply multi-sport expertise to footballing operations, under INEOS’s strategic direction.

It’s an exciting time for United fans, amid the short-term struggles.

Fans endured years of pain, with a hierarchy which lacked structure and experience of the required level.

While performances currently may not be anywhere near the level, Ratcliffe’s attempts in restructuring the hierarchy perhaps deserves credit.

Long-term future is of the essence – having the right hierarchy to support the manager is key in building a dynasty.
