Manchester United have been prioritising a rebuild of their attack this summer, with Matheus Cunha being their first major signing ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Cunha shone at Wolverhampton Wanderers, establishing himself as a proven Premier League attacker, drawing the attention of Ruben Amorim.
Last season, the 26-year-old grabbed 17 goals and six assists in 36 games last season, however it wasn’t enough to help Wolves finish in the top half of the Premier League table.
That said, it showed his ability to consistently deliver in the league, having grabbed 14 goals and eight assists in 36 games the season before.
As such, the Red Devils agreed to pay his £62.5 million release clause to see him move to Old Trafford, with the Brazil international keen to be a part of Amorim’s rebuild project.
The 26-year-old has already started slotting into the attacking line with fellow new signing Bryan Mbeumo, bringing a new energy to United’s attack.
Already Cunha has featured in United pre-season tour of the United States as well as their Premier League opener against Arsenal, however it’s his off-field revelation that has now turned heads.
Speaking to Rio Ferdinand, Cunha revealed that he speaks five different languages.
When asked how he’s learnt so many, Matheus Cunha explained that at the age of 18 he moved to Switzerland to play for FC Sion, and as a result learnt French and English.
However he also explained that his manager spoke Italian so as a result learnt that also, then learning German when moving to RB Leipzig, also joining Hertha BSC afterwards before moving to Atletico Madrid and then the Premier League with Wolves.
In addition to learning these four languages during his time in Europe, Cunha’s first language is Portuguese, having grown up in Brazil.
