Since reigniting his career with his loan-spell at Getafe, former Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood has gone from strength to strength.
In LaLiga whilst on loan, the 23-year-old grabbed Getafe’s Player of the Season award after scoring ten goals and grabbing six assists in 36 games.
However, after securing a £26.6 million move to Marseille in 2024, the former England international has continued to impress.
Last season Greenwood netted 22 goals and grabbed six assists in 36 games, doubling his goal tally from his time at Getafe in just as many games, making him runner-up for Ligue 1 top goalscorer just behind PSG’s Ousmane Dembele.
Despite being only three games into the 2025/26 Ligue 1 campaign, Mason Greenwood is already showing his form, with a goal and two assists.
As such, the 23-year-old has grabbed the attention on the international stage once again, with Steve McLaren offering him a call-up to the Jamaica national squad, being eligible to play for the side through his grandfather.
GBNews has reported Steve McClaren’s comments on his offer to Greenwood, saying: “We acquired a passport, and we expected him to be coming to this camp, but in a conversation with his family, he’s not going to commit at this time to anybody.”
He continued: “It’s a little bit disappointing. We probably have to be more patient. We will keep pursuing him because I know from my conversations with Mason that he loves Jamaica.
“He wants to concentrate on club football and not commit to an international team at the moment. He’s taking his time over that. Who knows in the future?”
By rejecting the Jamaican call-up, Greenwood is keeping the door open to re-join the England squad down the line, however with only one international cap to his name, he fits the criteria to be able to make the switch if he chooses to do so.
