Manchester United have been active early in the summer window, securing the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to strengthen their attack.
But with over £120 million already spent, the club have now shifted focus toward outgoings as they look to generate funds for further additions.
That process has officially begun with confirmation of the first major departure of the window, Marcus Rashford is heading to Barcelona.
The two clubs have agreed a season-long loan with an option to buy worth £30.3 million, marking a significant turning point in Rashford’s career.
The deal also includes a penalty clause if Barcelona fail to make the move permanent, echoing the terms of Jadon Sancho’s loan to Chelsea.
With Barcelona set to cover Rashford’s full wages, the move will save United around £17 million over the course of the season.
Chris Wheeler via Mail Sport has now revealed the details of Rashford’s welcome to Barcelona.
The Catalan giants gave Rashford a five-star reception, treating him to a lavish dinner at the exclusive £156-per-head Amar restaurant, with 18 guests in attendance.
After the meal, Rashford and president Joan Laporta posed for photos with the chefs and staff.
“I am very excited, I think it’s a club where people’s dreams come true,” said Rashford.
Rashford will be hoping for a fresh start at Barcelona after a tough few years in Manchester.
Once considered United’s saviour and most valuable asset, Rashford eventually fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim and spent last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Although Rashford showed flashes of his best form at Villa, United decided he no longer fit their long-term plans and opted to put him on the market.
While United would have preferred a permanent sale, they are satisfied with the terms of the loan and the financial relief it provides.
