Manchester United have had a spate of injuries lately, with the likes of Mason Mount, Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia ruled out. However, there appears to be positive news all around with another milestone towards recovery.

United have been suffering from some long-term injuries affecting player selection, especially being felt in defence.

Leny Yoro was injured on the pre-season tour of the United States, only weeks after being signed for the club. The centre-back was taken off in the first half of the tour opener against Arsenal, having suffered a broken metatarsal.

After months of recovery, the Frenchman has been seen back in team training, marking his progress.

Alongside him in training were the left-back pair of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia who were ruled out for most of last season, and still yet to return.

However, one of the left-backs is now returning to the pitch tonight for United’s Under-21s side on his road to recovery.

Tyrell Malacia is now getting his first minutes of game time in 18 months, being selected to play in the Under-21’s game tonight.

The Daily Mail has reported that Malacia is set for minutes against Huddersfield Town in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy tonight. This opportunity to return to the pitch is a massive step in his road to recovery to fight for his place in the first team.

The left-back has been ruled out with persistent knee problems, having required surgery to sort the issue.

Unfortunately, the first set of surgery didn’t go as planned, requiring another operation.

Speaking about his recovery, fellow defender Diogo Dalot commented: “It was really tough to see him and the struggle that he’s been through.”

He continued: “You can’t imagine how difficult it would be to not be able to do what you love, your job, for such a long time.

“That’s why we celebrated when he came on training with us, even if it was just for the little boxes… to make sure that he feels we are ready to welcome him and to keep helping him, because he’s going to need it.

“At the end of the day, it was a really long time since he got an injury. We’re really pleased to have him. The team needs him and the club needs him, so we are really happy.”
