One of Manchester United’s key youngsters is currently in Spain, with speculation of Barcelona tapping up the youngster.
The phrase “tapping up” refers to a club attempting to lure a player to sign for them without going through official channels and without the consent of the player’s current contracted team.
This is a massive area of taboo in the world of football, considered as a significant business infraction, with massive fines and potential transfer window bans for clubs that are found guilty of it.
Under the Premier League rules, the rulebook clearly explains rule T.1.2, saying: “a contracted player, either by himself or by any person on his behalf, shall not either directly or indirectly make any such approach as is referred to in Rule T.5 without having obtained the prior written consent of his club”.

The rulebook also states that agents can’t advertise their clients to prospective clubs “without having obtained the prior written consent of his (the player’s current) club”.
So, it’s fair to say there may be some real concerns with one of United’s exciting prospects and his seeming overly welcoming visit in Barcelona.
Barcelona greets United’s young star, JJ Gabriel
JJ Gabriel is a really impressive talent in United’s Under-14s side, with praise being heaped on the star by Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
However, now Gabriel is currently in Spain and his welcome by Barcelona is a potential cause for concern of the Spanish side trying to lure over the youngster.
The LaLiga side have welcomed the United academy star with a tour of Camp Nou, he’s been gifted tickets to a match, given a signed Lamine Yamal shirt and has met the squad.
Hopefully for United this is just a kind gesture from the Spanish club, however, it does seem to be a bit above and beyond for an Under-14s team player.
